I created these probably about a year ago, and finally got around to printing them... and they look amazing.
I'm going to turn them into a big painting with multiple color variations, and some I will make in big canvases.
On other news... I got to hang around one of my favorite people in the world. My long lost bestie Elias, who left the Manhattan to go find professional success in marketing for a cosmetics company in the southwest. Good times.
Life in NYC can get extremely busy, and before you know it you have waaaaay too many responsibilities and time commitments to even realize the beauty and wonderful opportunities that are around us.
In that sense, I do like getting to meet some ot the transient population of NY (the people that come for an internship and have an expiration date as to how long they'll be here for). They always seem so excited about everything and everything they do and everywhere they go is "the coolest ever".
On the other hand however, I can find those people to be extremely annoying because they seem to not be aware what the reality is in terms of what making an actual life happen in NYC requires of you, and they always question why you aren't doing all these "amazing things" (to which I answer in my head "it's called I ave a real life, and i'm not just sitting there blowing through my or my parents money")..
In any case, I do try to keep the magic alive, and to take in as much of New York City as i can, and as often as I can.
Sometimes this just means a 5 minutes of sitting out at central park, but hey! at least its better than nothing ;) So here are a fe images from the last few days. I'll be sharing what i can, as often as possible ;)
I recently set out on a trip, only to realize the era of customer service has come to an end.
US Airways, partnered with American airlines in an effort to bring you better, stronger: bad service... apparently creating the airline company where good service came to die.
After a terribly annoying situation where they attempted to convince me to check my bags upon check-in, for the low $20 dollar fee, upon arrival at the gate, it turned out that we were being forced to check our bags, for free. (I wonder how those who paid for their bags to be checked felt at this point).
Long story short, upon arriving back in NYC, I noticed an odd brown matter smeared on the handle of my bag, so i inspected it more carefully... turns out, my hard case carry on, was practically destroyed, with cracks in 3 corners, and one wheel had fallen off.
So lets quickly recap:
They charge you to check your bags, but once you get to the plane they force you to check anyway, then they break your bag.
So far, not a great experience.
When you get to the baggage office, there is a special treat for you. You are greeted by a person who barely speaks english, telling you they will not replace your bag, because its "normal" wear and tear, lines clearly read from a learned script as the man couldn't elaborate on the reasoning behind his reply to my concerns.
When this guy told me that, I took my phone out, and warned him that this was too good, and I was going to film him saying that for my files, so by then he refused to explain the "policy" he had just gone over, stating "I already explained it to you".
Obviously, at this time, the camera pointing at them attracted the attention of the previously "busy" office manager, who was busy playing a game on her phone sitting right next to the other clown, but not offering any help..
"This bag isn't broken" she said. "I don't see anything"
Lucky me, there were other customers in line, so I looked at them and asked, does this look "not broken to you?", and once the manager saw their reaction, she had no option but to carefully inspect my bag, and agree that, in fact, the bag was basically useless after going through their hands.
In response, the manager agreed to "allow me" to file a baggage claim, since if at their discretion, the bag seems to be ok. they don't even give you the form to do so.
Now, I believe this unfortunately isn't an isolated case of bad customer service. In NYC at least, 80% of all service providing employees are similarly useless. People on their cellphones at work, texting while you are giving your coffee order at starbucks so you can pay for overpriced coffee from a company that doesn't take more time to select their employees better. Or is it that they are paying so little, that they can only afford below standard human resources?
Its unfortunate but i truly believe we have witnessed the end of an era, where the customer mattered, and people still had pride in offering quality service.

This last Friday the 5th I attended an art exhibit in Spanish Harlem, at one of my neighborhood's art galleries.
The Poets Den Gallery is a great art space that hosts multiple types of art events, in this case, the Solo artist is J.T. Liss.
An East Harlem based photographic artist, J.T. 's work consists of multiple photographic layers, merged together to create beautiful pieces of art that speak to the soul through visual storytelling.
J.T. talked about his work to exhibit attendees during a Q&A , where people asked him anything they wanted about his process, his thoughts and feelings about some of his pieces.
The show was attended by many neighborhood artists as well as members of the film industry, as for me, I attended with these hooligans -------------->>>>>>

Recientemente fui a un interesante evento fotográfico en una galería de arte ubicada en East Harlem, mejor conocido como Spanish Harlem. En la galería encontré una revista llamada Mariachi Times, una revista de "cultura Latina" en NY.
La revista no estaba mal, así que decidí visitar la página de internet de esa publicación para saber más sobre ellos, lo que hacen y representan.
La página es un desastre. Las gráficas son malas en cuanto a la ejecución y el diseño, parecen haber sido creadas por alguien que no sabe usar Photoshop, además de que la composición es desagradable. Aun con esos problemas, lo que me preocupa más es la forma en la que están representando a la cultura latina.
Como pueden ver en la toma de pantalla (la imagen que encabeza este texto), encontrarán un bebé con un sombrero de Mariachi (porque eso es “claramente” lo que se lleva en México), que por cierto es un bebé de ojos azules (porque poner un bebé de ojos café en la portada de Mariachi Times?) Bajo el título, una imagen en rotación muestra un perro Chihuahueño también con un sombrero, y un letrero grande que grita TAMALES!, todo con unos colores que no van muy bien juntos y visualmente, muy pesados.

I recently attended an awesome event in a gallery located in East Harlem, otherwise known as Spanish Harlem. At the gallery I found a publication called Mariachi Times, which is a 'Latins in NY' type culture magazine.
The actual magazine didn't look too bad at all, so i figured I would check out their website to learn more about who creates the magazine and what they are about.
Well, the website is a hot mess. Not only are the graphics bad in terms of the design, but they are put together poorly, as if someone with bad photoshop skills made them. While that is bad, as far as I'm concerned the bigger issue here is the way they are portraying Latin culture.
If you see the screenshot I added, you can see a baby wearing Mariachi Sombrero (because that's what babies wear in Mexico), and of course its a blue eyed baby (because, why would you put a brown eyed baby on the cover of the MARIACHI TIMES?). Under the title, a rotating image, shows either a Chihuaha puppy, also wearing a sombrero, or a big sign that says TAMALES, all very color clashing and layed out in a way that feels like knives to the eyes .

"The Tribute in Light is an art installation of 88 searchlights placed next to the site of the World Trade Center to create two vertical columns of light in remembrance of the September 11 attacks. It is produced annually by The Municipal Art Society of New York. It initially ran as a temporary installation from March 11 to April 14, 2002, and was launched again in 2003 to mark the second anniversary of the attack. As of 2013, it has been repeated every year on September 11. It had been announced that 2008 would be its final year, but the tribute was continued in 2009. On December 17, 2009, it was confirmed that the tribute would continue through to the tenth anniversary of the attacks in 2011, but continued again in 2012. As of July 23, 2012, plans are underway for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum to assume the lease for the MTA property used during this tribute, and to begin transitioning operation of the tribute from the Municipal Art Society to the memorial foundation.."
So, Fashion Week is back at Lincoln Center, showing the best of what fashion has to offer.
Upcoming collections, avant- garde styles and what not.
While there are a lot of photo worthy outfits, accessories and personalities, there are always the random people who have nothing to do in fashion week, throw on something they consider to be fashionable, and lurk around Lincoln Center waiting to get their picture taken and become the new face of fashion.
Case in Point: The grinch who killed style.
This person, which I'm not quite sure whether it was a he or a she, but we'll say it was a she, was definitely defying the status quo.
By throwing on some not so traditional rags on she captivated the attention of a few bloggers and fashion reporters. While i was hoping to get some eye-catching beauties, I saw her doing "the rounds" and getting quite some attention..
I'm sure she will give a lot of do/don'ts reporters something to put in that don't list. Just sayin
No judgement tho,... i do give her an A for effort. ;)
For the last few weeks my schedule has gotten so crazy I haven't been able to attend ballet class for some time now,
New York City Life can get really busy, specially in the summer, between visiting guests, summer activities, non-dance related work, special projects and the occasional hang out, not being able to make it to daily ballet class can be a common occurrence.
Although class is a fairly simple event, I think most dancers are aware that class is a special routine that is kind of sacred, and even if it happens daily, class is always full of wonderful moments, that if we are lucky, we get to enjoy on a regular basis for a fair amount of years in our lives.
So with this thought, here are the top 10 simple pleasures from ballet class i'm missing the most:
The liberating feeling of turning out for the first time of the day,
The positive contagious attitude and energy of an awesome teacher
The mental challenge of some combinations
That gradual feeling of your muscles starting to get warm as barre goes by
The relief of an exercise that was very difficult, being over
...and that moment you realize you still have one more side to go
The random life stories that the teacher tells, which somehow always help you in dance or in life
That refreshing feeling when you get a quick sip of water in the thirty seconds between barre and center
The determination to get a step that you struggled with first time around
And the relief and joy of having achieved it in at least a decent manner.
After class, having already completed your favorite part of the day although you have a whole other type of challenges heading your way.
Oh yeah! and of course, that feeling that even when you can't do anymore, if you were given the option, you would take another class literally right after it, just because its so much fun.
